Another great fall day on Skiatook. Today I was joined by Brian Barber and
his 12 yr. old daughter, Janessa. Brian has fished Skiatook before but had
never really targeted Hybrids, especially with live bait. This was Janessa's
first time tangling with these bullies. We started out this morning about 10
am. I was showing Janessa how we would be putting the shad on a hook, and I
have to admit that I was thinking that I would be putting bait on her hook
all day. Boy was I wrong, this young lady watched as I hooked the first one
then she took over that chore. She was dipping shad out of the tank and
baiting all the rods. We got out on the main body of the lake and it was
pretty windy, so when I marked a big school of Hybrids off a windy point I
decided to put out the anchor so I could stay in the area. We hooked up
pretty fast after that and she was having a ball. I knew this was a good
spot because I have been picking up some good sized fish there for a couple
of weeks. The bite slowed a bit so I cut up a couple of shad for chum and as
it turned out Janessa was very interested in how and why I was doing that.
After explaining how it stimulates the fish into biting more, she promptly
picked up the scissors and did the chumming chores for the rest of the day.
We ended up catching 15 Hybrids and several good sized Sandies. Janessa
really thought she was in fish heaven when we started hooking up doubles and
triples right after she chopped up chum and put it in the lake. I have to
say that this was a memorable day for me enjoying their company, I hope I
get to go with them again soon. Check out my website in a couple of days for
some pictures of her fish.
