I booked an afternoon trip to Birch for the 24th and it turned out awesome. Of course it was hot weatherwise but so was the fishing. The Hybrids were fat and sassy, we had a pretty steady bite all afternoon but it really turned on close to sundown. Birch has been really good this summer.

The month of June was very un-typical on Skiatook. I had several trips early in the month and they were tough. The fish were very late schooling up in deeper water this summer. Overall it was pretty slow going on Skiatook. I did some prospecting trips at other lakes and I'm happy to report that the bite was much better. There were more fish and bigger fish than we were seeing at Skiatook. I took some time off about the middle of the month to take care of some family business and to take my wife on our annual "anniversary...

I've been out of town quite a bit for the past month so I decided to make an exploratory trip up to Birch to check out the latest conditions. I went with my friend Derik Geddings in his rig. We went over to Keystone to catch bait then got to Birch about 9:30 this morning. We got lines out and had a fish on before we could get all four lines baited. All the fish today were over five pounds and in very good shape. The fishing is hot right now!! I'd recommend an afternoon outing and try to fish...
